Not for gerbils

I bought one of these at a local pet store and gave it to my gerbil. He got the hay off the outside of the ball and then dragged some twine up to the top of his cage. I freaked out and pulled out the twine. Anything like twine or string can be dangerous as the gerbil will eat it or eat parts of it and then it will get into intestines (or wrapped around paws or fingers) and cause injury or death. I was able to catch it in time and completely cleaned his cage, but I'm shocked that Oxbow is recommending this for gerbils. Definitely not for gerbils!
That said, PetGuys did a wonderful job of catching my most recent order and canceling 4 more of these hay balls off my order. PetGuys has the best prices around--it just pays to do research and find out about products before ordering.
